After a Magna Cum Laude graduation at Berklee College of Music in Boston, he moved to NYC and went on to producing and arranging for artists such as Roberta Flack and Jerry Barnes (producer of Chaka Kahn and “Chic”).

 

As a producer, performer and arranger, Ruy Folguera has worked with luminaries of the music scene, including David Coverdale of “Whitesnake” and Mike Patton of “Faith No More”, Roberta Flack and Chaka Khan, Colin Hay of “Men At Work” and Engelbert Humperdinck, rock super star Fito Paez, Neal Schon of “Journey” and Japan’s superstar Yazawa, to name a few.

 

Folguera started out in films collaborating with legendary composers Lalo Schifrin and Maurice Jarre on several productions and with Alan Menken on “Enchanted”, and was in charge of the big band arrangements for Disney’s “Finding Nemo” (2003).

 

His first work in a Hollywood film was on “A Walk in the Clouds” (1995) starring Anthony Quinn and Keanu Reeves.

 

his scores can be heard on an array of films such as “Rush Hour I, II & III”, “Picking Up the Pieces” (2000) starring Woody Allen and Sharon Stone, “The Magnificent Ambersons” (2002) featuring Jonathan Reese Meyers and Madeleine Stowe, “The Day the Earth Stood Still” (2008) reprising his collaboration with Keanu Reeves, and many more.

 

One of his film features is Ernest Borgnine’s final contribution to the entertainment business on “The Man Who Shook the Hand of Vicente Fernandez” (2012). 

 

Folguera’s awards include the ASCAP Best Song of the Year award for the film “Zapata” in 2005 and a Golden Globe Award for the Rush Hour I score (1998). “Rosarigasinos” (aka. Gangs of Rosario) and “El Páramo” (aka. The Squad) are two of his films with remarkable success in the international film festivals circle, granting Ruy Folguera the Academy of Arts and Sciences Best Music for Film Award in Argentina and a nomination in 2012 by the Colombia Academy of Arts for Best Music Award, respectively.

In 2012 he was commissioned a symphonic piece for full orchestra and choir for the 150 years commemoration of “Battle of Puebla”, Mexico, an internationally broadcasted TV event presented by Felipe Calderón, 56th President of Mexico.

 

During 2013 and 2014 Ruy composed scores for varied and diverse films in the international film markets of Colombia, USA, Bolivia and Puerto Rico. Also worked on the debut film by Argentinean director Julieta Ledesma titled “Son of War.”

  • Arranging for Fito Paez 30 years anniversary reissue of Argentina’s bestselling Rock Album El amor después del amor.
     

  • Composing for Disney Plus’ streaming series Girasoles, featuring virtuoso singer songwriter Nahuel Pennisi.
     

  • Composed the music for Nina, a biopic on Nina Simone, starring Zoe Saldana and David Oyelowo and it’s a score that features dazzling jazz performances and lush orchestra together with intimate piano touches. 
     

  • Performing live in the LA area with Opera/Tango/Jazz singer Camila Lima.
     

  • Composing the full orchestra score for Out of this world, a videoclip/space opera based around Ariana and the Rose’s “Lonely star”, directed by Elia Petridis.
